Welcome to Grand Rapids, Beer City USA and one of the most up and coming cities in the United States. It has something to offer for all ages from families to young entrepreneurs. Grand Rapids is one of the America’s Greenest Cities and has 473 LEED Certified buildings making it not only a friendly community to live in but also an environmentally friendly place as well. This West Michigan city has so much to offer and is a great place to build your home and life. Here are a few tips for making the move to Grand Rapids:
Prepare for the Weather
Michigan experiences all four seasons in their entirety, Grand Rapids weather is no stranger to cold long winters and hot summers. It is important to be sure your home is prepared for all seasons when living in the West Michigan area. Your home should be well insulated for the winters and cooled for the summers. Proper drainage is needed to keep the melting snow and spring rains from building up around your home and flooding your basement. Michigan weather is a blast to enjoy but it is important to be prepared for it too.
Storage Solutions
Living in Grand Rapids means living close to the beauty and fun of Lake Michigan and the many fun attractions the city offers, such as Frederik Meijer Gardens and the Downtown Market. It can be great to enjoy these attractions in all seasons but that can require some seasonal equipment which needs to be stored in the off season. Summers call for sand toys, bathing suits, yard games, and bicycles. Winters bring the need for layers of snow clothing, sleds, ice skates, and snow removal equipment. Most of these items can be stored in a garage, shed or small area but for bigger items you may consider a bigger garage or pole barn. Bigger items can include a boat for summer excursions or snowmobile for enjoying the winter trails the area offers.
Family Fun to Spare
Grand Rapids offers many attractions, restaurants, and schools to make every family feel at home. Our school system offers every option from public, private, charter, virtual, and homeschooling. There is even a school located within the John Ball Zoo where kids can learn hands on about the environment and animals. We offer a chance to get out and see some great athletes in action with the Griffins AHL Hockey team at Van Andel Arena and the White Caps Baseball at Fifth Third Stadium. You can even catch some terrific performances by the Grand Rapids Ballet and introduce your children to your favorite ballet.
Grand Rapids has so much to offer for everyone and is excited to continue to grow and welcome all of the newcomers to the area. Whitmore Custom Homes is happy to grow the community and be a welcoming face in the new area. We are here for all of your home building needs in the West Michigan area and can’t wait to meet you and your family.
